Cellular Capability

Spartan GoCam CameraSpartan GoCam is a 4G game camera powered by the AT&T network. It comes with a pre-installed SIM card. Hence, all you need to do is to activate this SIM card from HCO and then to set the photo and video parameters to your desire from the camera menus. Once you have completed these steps, you are set to use your trail camera.

One of the most advantageous features of Spartan GoCam is that you do not need to make a data contract. Instead, it uses an AT&T DataConnect Pass mobile broadband plan and you can activate, deactivate, or reactivate the plan at any time you wish. Moreover, you can find the bundled data plans directly on the Spartan GoCam website which means that you can manage your data service and camera from the same platform!

Spartan GoCam uses the Spartan mobile app and web portal for easy image and video viewing. Also, this gives you full remote camera management that allows you to efficiently communicate with your camera regardless of its location. Last but not least, for security purposes you can transmit pictures with or without AES 256 encryption.

Image & Video Quality

Spartan GoCam can take photos with as high as 8MP image quality and you can set the video resolution as high as 720P high definition. However, you can record 720P videos only if you wish to save them on the memory card. In case you want to transmit videos to your phone or computer, you need to use a lower definition because of high data usage. You will have vivid photos and videos when you use high-resolution settings which is essential to observing wildlife.

Detection Circuit & Trigger Speed

Spartan GoCam trail camera can take clear night images as well as day time photos and videos. It features IR or blackout flash that can reach an extensive range of 70ft. Furthermore, it has a trigger speed of 0.6s, which is under one second and pretty fast.

Operational Modes

Spartan GoCam is normally triggered by motion thanks to its PIR motion detector. However, you can set one or two periods, each with different trigger intervals if you do not want it to be taking photos all the time. You can also use the time-lapse mode to take photos or videos. This game camera has photo burst options like 1, 2, and 3, as well.

Design & Accessories

Spartan GoCamSpartan GoCam often boasts about its durability and this self-confidence rests on solid ground. Its well-built latch design, along with robust water-intrusion prevention makes it incredibly sturdy and resistant to harsh environmental conditions. All these features make it a perfect cellular game camera for hunting and scouting purposes.

Spartan GoCam comes with 6 edgeless microfiber U-towels and1 dog’s heart large bone-shaped drying towel as a bundle.

Battery

Spartan GoCam uses 12AA batteries to operate. If lithium batteries are used, one set of batteries will last for several months. However, the battery life depends largely on the camera settings and the frequency of usage. The rear case of the camera is arranged in such a way that each battery has its own slot. This arrangement eliminates the possibility of batteries getting unseated.

Batteries are not included in the package and have to be purchased separately.

Storage Options & Warranty

Spartan GoCam uses an SD card to store photos and videos but unfortunately, the SD card is not included in the package. On the positive side, the camera can be set to overwrite the oldest photo on the SD card with the most recent when the SD card is full. This way, you don’t lose the most recent photos.

This product is covered by a two-year limited warranty.

Cons

People have complained that this game camera drains batteries pretty quickly. Also, if you let dead batteries sit in the unit for too long, there might be some acid leakage which may harm the unit itself. Therefore, you will need to be particular about battery switches if you purchase this unit.

Bottom Line

Spartan GoCam is a durable and functional cellular trail camera. It has its own ups and downs of course, but we believe that it is really a good choice to be used in harsh environments. We hope that our review has given you a better idea of the unit to make a conscious choice.
